A DRINK-DRIVER who was already banned from the roads has been jailed.

Peter Crouch, of Beech Lane in Barnton, has been sentenced to eight months in prison after he got behind the wheel while over the limit and crashed into a tree.

The 37-year-old was already serving a driving ban and was more than twice the drink-drive limit when he crashed on April 12.

Cheshire Police were alerted to the crash, on Wallerscote Road in Weaverham, shortly after 10.30pm.

“The caller reported that a silver Mitsubishi Shogun had crashed into a tree and a lamppost had been knocked over,” said a spokesperson for the force.

“Officers attended and found Crouch was the sole occupant of the car, he refused to provide a breath sample at the scene and was arrested for failing to provide a sample of breath to which he made no reply.

“Crouch was searched and the vehicle keys located in his pocket.

“Additional checks on the Police National Computer showed Crouch was disqualified from driving until June 2024 and he was further arrested for this offence.”

Around an hour after the crash, while in custody, Crouch provided a breath sample.

He blew a reading of 93 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit being 35 microgrammes.

In the end, Crouch was charged with drink-driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

These offences also meant he breached two suspended sentence orders, for affray and theft.

At Chester Crown Court on Monday (May 13), Judge Simon Berkson sentenced Crouch to a total of eight months in prison - two months for driving whilst disqualified and a further six months for the breaches.

Judge Berkson also banned Crouch from driving for three years and four months and endorsed his licence with six penalty points.
