A SCHOOLGIRL will complete a trike ride in memory of her sister who died from a rare condition.
Parents Emma Weaver and her husband Leigh lost their daughter Georgina Louise just five days after she was born in May 2014.
Georgie who arrived six weeks early at Arrowe Park Hospital on May 26, 2014, was born with Tracheal agenesis, a rare condition in which the windpipe fails to develop. Her parents watched on as doctors worked hard to stabilise her before transferring her to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital where she sadly died.
In memory of her sister, Iris Weaver from Neston, will take on an 11-mile trike ride.
The seven-year-old school girl has decided to follow in her older sister Jess’ footsteps who has cycled hundreds of miles since in memory of their little sister Georgie.
Emma told the Globe: “Jess did her first trike ride for Georgie when she turned seven from Hadlow Station to West Kirby and it steadily grew from there but now she’s in the middle of her GCSE’s she’s decided she won’t do a big bike ride again.
“She suggested Iris could take over now that she’s seven but we didn’t think anything of it at the time.
“But a couple of months ago Iris received a letter from Alder Hey Children’s Hospital asking her if she’d like to be an ambassador for the charity like Jess.”
Now Iris will take on the biking challenge on Sunday, May 26, marking what would have been Georgie’s 10th birthday.
Emma said: “She’s really looking forward to it. She was made up when she got the letter asking if she would be an ambassador because she’s known about the fundraising all her life and she’s always wanted to be involved so this is her chance to raise some money and show what she can do.
“Fundraising for Alder Hey has always been a part of our family’s life and Georgie is always spoken about so Iris does understand everything. She’s aware that the money raised is to help other children which is all we’ve ever wanted to do.
“They’re amazing kids we’re so lucky. We’re really proud of them.”
Iris’ trike ride will take place at 10am on Sunday, May 26 from Hadlow Station. To donate click here.
