CHESHIRE West and Chester is set to experience heavy rain throughout this afternoon (Wednesday, May 22).
A yellow warning is already in place for the borough; however an amber warning is now in place from noon.
Rain is forecast to become heavy and persistent later today and into Thursday with flooding and disruption likely.
The Met Office says this will mean delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely, as is fast flowing or deep floodwater.
Spray and flooding could also lead to difficult driving conditions with the potential for road closures, leading some communities to cut off.
Power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses are also likely.
There is a minimum 80 per cent chance of rain throughout the day, with the alert currently in place until midday tomorrow.
The amber warning stretches from areas of North Wales, across Merseyside to Manchester.
Many places within the warning area will see 30-40mm of rain, with high ground in the northwest of England seeing 70-90 mm.
The mountains of north Wales may see 100-150mm or more.
