THOUSANDS of people are expected to flock to a new festival in Cheshire.
The first-ever Festival on the Field will take place in Wilmslow this summer.
Organised by the Wilmslow Round Table, festival chairman James Richardson hopes it could become one of the biggest events on the town’s calendar.
He said: “We’ve been organising the Wilmslow Bonfire for years, it’s a really well-attended event that attracts about 10,000 people.
“We want Festival on the Field to be as successful, if not more, than the bonfire.
“There isn’t anything else in Wilmslow like this.”
Wilmslow Round Table chairman Dominic Wray added: “I’m beyond excited for the Festival on the Field!
“Not only do I get to pick the beers, but it’s shaping up to be an incredible event.
“Plus, it’s all for a good cause. Our bonfire events have raised funds for numerous local clubs, groups, charities, and the community, and this festival will help us do even more.
“Don’t miss out on the fun!”
Wilmslow Round Table hosted a beer festival last summer but want to make this year’s event more family-oriented.
Festival on the Fields takes place on July 6, the day before Wilmslow Community Show, at Carnival Fields.
Alongside beer and gin, there will be plenty of artisan food stalls as well as carnival rides and live entertainment.
There will also be a gigantic ‘rock concert level’ screen showing a Euro 2024 quarter-final match.
Should all go well, it will be England playing.
“If that happens it will be brilliant,” James said.
“You can just imagine, thousands of people from the local area all coming together, celebrating in one place. It would be mind-boggling.”
Asked what he is most looking forward to, James added: “Just seeing people smiling and enjoying themselves.
“It will be really good to get as many people out as possible.”
James is expecting around 3,000 people to attend the inaugural event, an impressive number given that Wilmslow Round Table came out of the pandemic with just two members.
They have since grown to a group of about 20 but are open to new members.
“We are always looking for good people who want to come and help give back to the local community, as well as enjoy all the social events we do,” James said.
Early bird tickets for Festival on the Field are on sale now, priced at £5 for adults and £2.50 for children, with every ticket including a free drink.
