TWO Cheshire campsites have been named among the best in the Northwest by the UK’s leading outdoor accommodation booking platform.
Pitchup.com has revealed the top 20 campsites in the region, with two Cheshire locations making the cut.
The rankings are determined by more than 171,000 customer reviews of 2,658 live UK sites listed on the website across England, Scotland and Wales. These are then broken down to show the best places for a camping holiday in each area.
Each site was evaluated on aspects including location, value for money, quality of accommodation, activities and cleanliness, with guests awarding 70 per cent of all UK sites listed on the platform in 2023 an overall score of 8/10 and above.
To be considered in the ‘review awards’, sites must have a minimum of 20 reviews in that year, and are scored out of ten.
The top ranked site in Cheshire was Bluebell Wilds, which reached number 18 in the top 20, with an impressive 9.8/10 overall rating.
This adults-only site near the Cheshire/Shropshire border offers rural views, with Whitchurch just ten minutes away for provisions and takeaways. Nearby attractions include castles, a gin distillery, and a watersports lake, ensuring there’s plenty to explore when you're not walking.
On-site, guests can find a washing-up area, chemical disposal point and modern toilet block with separate male and female toilets and a couple of wet rooms with showers. Reviewers praise the facilities for being “scrupulously clean” and say the site is often treated to some spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
Prices start at £25 per night, based on a maximum of 6 people sharing a non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch.
Also rated highly rated at 9.8/10 and rounding out the top 20, was another Cheshire site, Avona Escapes.
Another adults-only site, with fantastic views of the Cheshire countryside, Avona Escapes is perfect for bikers with some stunning roads in close proximity.
The edge of the Peak District National Park is just five miles away from the site, with Matlock Bath an hour’s drive away and Buxton 35 minutes’ drive away. The Cat and Fiddle Inn, a Peak District distillery in a 17th-century building running tours and tastings, is 25 minutes’ drive away.
Supermarkets and takeaways are also available from nearby Congleton, which is around 10 minutes’ ride away.
