MOTORISTS travelling on the M56 near Ellesmere Port experienced delays this morning (Wednesday, May 29) after a partial obstruction of the carriageway.

National Highways confirmed that a large mudguard had been shed by a lorry on the westbound motorway between junctions 12 (A557 Runcorn) and junction 14 (A5117 Chester Services/Helsby).

Traffic officers from the National Highways’ Knutsford Outstation attended the scene, performing a rolling roadblock to slow down drivers so that the obstruction could be removed.

The incident was cleared by 8.50am and traffic conditions in the area have now returned to normal.
