A PERVERT has been sentenced for sexually assaulting a woman after he skipped court.

Geoffrey Moran was due to be sentenced earlier this month, having been convicted of sex offences following a trial after not guilty pleas.

But the 42-year-old failed to turn up at Warrington Magistrates’ Court, with a bench warrant issued for his arrest.

Moran was caught over the weekend and brought before Chester Magistrates’ Court on Monday – which happened to also be his birthday.

Here, he was sentenced on two charges of sexual assault, while he also admitted an offence of breaching court bail.

Michael O'Kane, representing the prosecution in the case, informed the court how the sexual assault offences occurred in Warrington in June 2022.

Moran was found guilty of touching a woman with his penis, as well as touching her chest area over her clothing.

He was convicted of sexual assault by touching without the consent of the victim.

Before sentencing, the bench of magistrates highlighted that a custodial sentence was appropriate given the severity of the offending.

They said that the offences were committed against a woman doing her job in trying to help the defendant, with the court hearing how it has had a ‘lasting effect’ on her.

However, the court said it was able to suspend the sentence due to the defendant being deemed a ‘realistic prospect for rehabilitation’.

Moran, now of Edward Street in Denton, Manchester, was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to undergo an alcohol treatment requirement for nine months and complete a 35-day Horizon sex offender treatment programme.

The court imposed 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days and told him he must sign the sex offender register for the next seven years.

In addition, a restraining order was approved by magistrates prohibiting Moran from contacting the victim in any way for the next five years.
