Cheshire Constabulary are marking this years Volunteers’ Week by paying tribute to the force's volunteers.

The move comes in recognition of the volunteers' commitment to keeping Cheshire safe.

The tribute coincides with Volunteers’ Week 2024, from June 3 to June 9, representing the 40th year of the initiative.

The week also includes National Specials Weekend, taking place from June 7 to June 9.

Cheshire Constabulary will join thousands of others in acknowledging the essential contribution volunteers make across the UK.

In order to pay respect to their volunteers, the Constabulary chose this week as the perfect time to celebrate their Special Constabulary, volunteers and cadets.

It is their dedication to keeping communities safe that has been applauded, acknowledging their roles in audit and scrutiny, community engagement and operational support.

A celebration evening was held at the Constabulary's headquarter on June 4, gathering the volunteers to hear about each other's roles and the valuable work they consistently deliver.

Across the week, images will be posted on the force's social media channels lauding their volunteers.

A special focus will be given to the Special Constabulary. as the force looks to share the important work they do, but also to inspire people that they could do it too.

The National Specials Weekend will see Special Constables deployed across the county for various operations.

These will include policing Warrington pride, providing night-time economy support and carrying out patrols and warrants among others.

Assistant chief constable, Bill Dutton, said: "The contribution our volunteers make is an integral part of making the communities of Cheshire even safer.

"Cheshire Constabulary is able to achieve more thanks to the ongoing commitment of our volunteers.

"Volunteer week gives us the opportunity to highlight and celebrate the personal sacrifice and contribution of every volunteer from Custody Visitor to Special Constable and the difference they make to our communities.

"Volunteers are able to learn new skills, and some of our Special Constables have recently been successful obtaining response driving and Taser qualifications.

"In turn, our volunteers bring experience and expertise from their own professional and personal lives.

"The passion and dedication of our volunteers is inspiring and the constabulary is richer for their contribution."

For those interested in volunteering with the Constabulary, there are opportunities as Special Constables, Police Support Volunteers and Police Cadets.
