A PARISH council on the outskirts of Chester organised an event to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
On Thursday, June 6, Delamere and Oakmere Parish Council, with the support of Forestry England and Delamere Station House, invited the local community to join them at the top of Old Pale Hill, Delamere, to light a beacon.
It was lit in remembrance of the tens of thousands of allied forces who gave service on D-DAY eighty years ago and helped secure peace.
A tribute was read by Navy veteran and parish resident Oscar Austin to the 170 plus locals who joined in the celebration.
Caroline Topping, chair of Delamere and Oakmere Parish Council, who organised the event, said it had been a team effort with help and support from the Forestry England team from Delamere who provided the beacon and the safety measures used on the site, the café at Delamere Station House who hosted the meeting point and Alexander Caravans from Oakmere in supplying the gas to fuel the beacon.
