THE UK’s biggest container-based storage company wants to build a new facility in Halton.
An application has been submitted by Denbigh-based Lock Stock Self Storage to Halton Council for a proposed new site on Desoto Road in Widnes.
The site is located on unused land nestled between the Tesco distribution facility and Warburton’s depot and if given the go ahead, would see vegetation cleared and the land levelled with the construction of new access roads, CCTV monitoring and solar powered lighting. The site would be open 24-hours-a-day.
The company started with one site in Denbigh, Wales in 1997 and now has 24 facilities across Chester , North Wales and the border counties, with one having opened in Huyton last year. The firm has almost 4,000 containers which can be used by businesses and the public.
A covering letter submitted in support of the plan, said: "Lock Stock Self Storage Limited as the UK’s largest container storage company is committed to providing secure, accessible and reliable storage solutions that cater to both business and household needs."
It added: "The development not only aligns with Halton Borough Council’s strategic objectives focused on economic growth and sustainability, but also presents an opportunity for indirect employment generation, supporting business growth within the community."
The letter concluded: “We are enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute to the local community and are confident that this development will offer significant benefits."
A design and access statement also submitted in support said the plans represented a ‘strategic initiative designed to meet local storage needs' while promoting ‘sustainable and economically vibrant community development’.
It added: "With a focus on responsible planning and design this project aims to set a new benchmark for development within the industrial estate, fostering a community-focused and environmentally sustainable approach."
No date has yet been set for a decision.
