A CHESTER mum who’s become known as ‘Carey Berry’ after baking for her home care clients met with the Lord Mayor to discuss her special recipe for success.
Julie Scott set up Radfield Home Care in 2021, a care business that helps older people in Chester and Ellesmere Port to live in their own homes for as long as possible, allowing them to remain in the communities they have been a part of.
Her passion for baking meant she would also gift employees and clients with sweet treats, earning her the Bake-Off related nickname.
Julie and her dedicated care team welcomed the Lord Mayor of Chester Cllr Razia Daniels to a special high tea at Radfield’s offices to share cakes - and the ingredients of the Radfield care recipe.
Julie talked to the Lord Mayor about the launch of Radfield’s ‘Be There’ movement, which underpins everything her team of 32 employees and Care Professionals are about, to provide quality care and support for their 64 clients.
Julie said that this was built on three core principles:
- Be You: supporting people in defining, developing and living their own identities.
- Be Connected: supporting people to enjoy and get the most out of the relationships that are important to them.
- Be Inspired: supporting people to achieve goals, both big and small, that matter to them.
Julie and her team created a photo wall to show the Lord Mayor the kinds of ‘magical’ moments that make memories. They showed pictures from the events and activities they have supported their clients to be able to take part in, as well as activities that they have always enjoyed as part of their lives, from trips to the zoo to boat museums, garden centres and more.
The Lord Mayor also met Radfield client Beryl, aged 89, who joined them for the special high tea served in china cups and with slices of Julie’s signature bake, a lemon drizzle cake.
Grandmother-of-two Beryl, a retired lady that worked for Woolworths most of her life told the Mayor how much she loves Radfield’s care and support and how a special highlight is when the Care Professionals dress up to hand deliver Julie’s baking, with an Easter bunny visit to drop off a cake and an Easter egg to her, marked as one of her favourite moments.
The Lord Mayor said: “I had a lovely day and what a happy place to visit with such a warm, inviting welcome. The atmosphere was so lovely I could see how caring the Radfield team is with the clients that were also there. I really enjoyed finding out about the way Radfield work and all of the different things they do for their clients.”
Julie added: “We’re incredibly proud of what we do and the difference we are making to older people’s lives here in Chester and Ellesmere Port with the Radfield recipe for care, Be There. It was a delight to welcome the Lord Mayor to our offices to share some of our special stories, our memory wall of photographs and a slice of my home baked cakes.”
Radfield Home Care Chester and Ellesmere Port received an overall ‘Outstanding’ rating in June 2023 from the care sector regulator, the Care Quality Commission. For more information on the services Radfield Home Care provides and career opportunities, visit www.radfieldhomecare.co.uk
