A cow was left feeling slightly sheepish after getting stuck in a muddy stream near a Cheshire village.

Firefighters were called out to rescue the animal, which had gone down an embankment by a field off Long Lane, Tarporley.

Two fire engines from Nantwich and Lymm, plus the animal rescue unit from Bollington, were deployed by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service at 8.06pm on Wednesday, June 19.

Crews cleared shrubbery to reach the cow and used specialist equipment to rescue and safely return it to the field.
