THE Chester Grosvenor’s bakery has been named among the best in the world.

Restaurant connoisseurs La Liste have revealed their Pastry Awards 2024 winners, with 198 sites across the UK making the long list.

Lannan Bakery in Edinburgh was the only UK spot to claim one of the awards, in the Pastry Opening of the Year category.

The Grosvenor, which says it is proud to serve what it believes to be the “best afternoon tea in Chester”, offers a range of pastries and cakes on its Brasserie and Afternoon Tea menus.

Elliot Hill, Executive Chef at The Chester Grosvenor, said: “We are honoured to be recognised by La Liste Pastry Awards. This is reflection of the hard work, passion, and creativity of our dedicated pastry team and Head Pastry Chef, Jordan Hay.

“We strive to provide our guests with an exceptional experience and are proud our afternoon tea is renowned in Chester and beyond, it is incredibly rewarding to see our efforts acknowledged in this way.”

Many visitors seem to support La Liste’s selection, with several reviews on Tripadvisor attesting to the quality of their pastries.

One person said a visit was “well worth it” adding: “Fine cut sandwiches, beautiful dainty pastries and scones and the best China cups and silver tea pot.”

Another said of a visit to the Grosvenor: “My wife had coffee and a toasted tea cake while I enjoyed a sample of the pastries.

“Needless to say, we enjoyed them immensely, so much so that we made a point of dropping in every morning on our visit to Chester and going through the pastry menu. Every one was a winner.”

Another added: “Afternoon tea was the best I've ever tasted. Each cake was unique and so amazing, the scones were fresh and delicious and there was a good selection of tasty sandwiches.”
