Pirates, superheroes and characters from other worlds made for a fantastic showing at Chester Racecourse's Comic Con Mania event this weekend.

Famous faces from outer space descended for the fun event on Saturday, with Red Dwarf's Chris Barrie (Rimmer) and Hattie Hayridge (Holly) joined by Star Wars actors Mike Quinn and Keith De'Winter.

Many of the attendees really got into the spirit of the event with spectacular cosplay, representing everything from well-known sci-fi staples Doctor Who and Star Wars to animated shows Scooby Doo and Hazbin Hotel.

Winner of the cosplay contest was Karen Lee, who dressed up as Barbara Maitland's horror transformation in supernatural comedy Beetlejuice.

Organisers Monopoly Events said the event – which also included traders, merchandise, prop characters and cars – is planned to return next year on a bigger scale "with far more content".
