An Ellesmere Port school pupil has been making a valuable contribution to the local community.
Ben Williams, a Year 5 student at Little Sutton Church of England School, has taken on the task of maintaining St Paul's Churchyard in Hooton.
Ben's great-grandfather Percy is buried in the churchyard. Although Ben never met Percy, who passed away in 1985 – the same year Ben's mother Hayley was born – he feels a strong connection to the site.
Ben's initiative began when he spent four hours cutting and weeding two rows of graves at the weekend. His efforts were driven by both a personal connection and a sense of community duty, as St Paul's Church is regularly used by his school for performances and events.
As a member of the school's Ethos group, Ben works closely with Father Mark Turner, the vicar of the church, further deepening his involvement.
Recognising the need for continued upkeep, Ben has since returned with a newly purchased petrol lawnmower. He managed to clear an additional four rows of graves. His dedication to maintaining not only his great-grandfather's grave but also other neglected graves demonstrates his strong community spirit.
Ben is committed to continuing this important work, ensuring that St Paul's Churchyard remains a respectful and well-maintained resting place for all.
