A CHESTER venue is set to host an exciting evening of poetry and music later this month.

Oliver Lewis will bring his new spoken word show Lampoonery of the Shallow to St Mary’s Creative Space, St Mary’s Hill on Friday, July 26, alongside Liverpool-based poet and performer Wes and music from Christian Bell of Colour It Red.

The author of two collections of poetry, Oliver Lewis has been shortlisted for the Orwell Youth Prize with his work “supporting the next generation of socially engaged young writers and thinkers.”

Lewis performs across the UK, including two recent double-bill headlines at Charcoal Gallery in Hawarden – who are partners for this event. He has also been part of the 2024 cast of Queer Spaces: Live! At York Theatre Royal with Roots Touring.

His work has been described as “unconventional and imaginative, leaving [the audience] clamouring for more”.

Spoken word artist Wes has gained a reputation across the Northwest for his powerful and at times harrowing depictions of addiction, self-doubt and recovery. His work uses imagery and humour to spread a message of hope, inspiration and laughter.

Christian Bell – part of Mancunian-born Liverpool-based outfit Colour it Red – will also be on hand to deliver music.

Standard tickets are £5, with student tickets available at £3.50.

Doors will open at 6.30pm on Friday, July 26.

Copies of Lampoonery of the Shallow and Oliver’s first collection Wisp Thin Skin will be available to purchase.
