A drunken Chester attacker who left his victim requiring treatment in the critical care unit in hospital has been jailed.
Jack Newton, 20, of Melbourne Road, had previously pleaded guilty at Chester Magistrates Court on May 17 to the charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent against victim Calum Moran.
Reappearing at the court to be sentenced on Friday, July 12, Newton was jailed for a total of four months.
The court heard the attack, which was unprovoked, had happened on July 15, 2023 in Chester, with Newton under the influence of alcohol. It had caused significant injuries to the victim, which had left him in the critical care unit.
Although magistrates took Newton's guilty plea into account, they believed the offence was so serious only a custodial sentence could be justified, to act as a deterrent.
Newton was also ordered to pay £500 compensation to his victim. No other order for court costs was imposed.
