Blacon Adventure Playground, fondly known as 'The Venny,' is a finalist in the BBC Make a Difference Awards.
The Venny has stood firmly as a part of the Blacon community for more than 50 years, providing a mix of services for families from the region, courtesy of devoted staff and volunteers of Avenue Services.
Managed by the social enterprise and free to all, the playground has been nominated for the Green Award.
The nomination recognises their commitment to a number of services including the distribution of daily meals, essential items like clothing, toothpaste and sanitary products for families in need.
Last year, volunteers committed more than 3,000 hours of their time, helping them to provide 12,000 meals, delivery of 400 food packages to families in need, and performing more than 1,000 bicycle repairs.
Apart from these, they also dedicated time to help children with schoolwork and arrange enjoyable games and activities.
Head of Avenue Services, Paul Knight, responded to the nomination saying: "We are delighted to be shortlisted to the final four of the BBC Make A Difference Award.
"It’s amazing to see all the hard work of our staff and volunteers at the Venny being recognised and we are looking forward to attending the awards in September."
