Alterations to plans to convert a landmark Grade II-listed building in Cheshire into two homes and build 12 new properties have been rubber-stamped.
Planning permission was granted to Tabley Homes to transform Beeston Towers into a residential development last year. The site comprised a disused 66-bedroom hotel with associated function room.
Most recently known as the Wild Boar Hotel, the building on Whitchurch Road near Tarporley had been subject to storm damage and vandalism.
Covering almost three acres, the estate was built in 1886 for John Naylor, a wealthy timber merchant from Warrington. The original building had been surrounded with additional extensions over the years and was used at one time as a school, and later converted into a public house, then a restaurant before becoming hotel.
Granting approval, an officer's report said at the time: "An urgent works notice was issued in 2021 to secure protection of the listed building, a number of these works have been carried out including the sheeting of the roof and boarding up of the windows and doors."
A recent application was made to amend the previously granted listed building consent. The changes relate to the modern extension and side elevation of a former wine cellar.
In the new designs, the eastern gable of the plot has been amended so that it opens straight into the garden. The amended plans also include bi-folding doors with timber or aluminium frames as not to impact the character of the building.
An officer's report, said: “The proposed treatments to the existing walls within the listed buildings have been updated to reflect areas where original wall panelling remains and where original treatments have previously been removed.”
The changes have been given the green light.
