A care home in Chester are celebrating after their managing director was crowned Cook Off Champion in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2024.

Alison Donaldson, the managing director of Crabwall Hall care home, competed against other division heads from Barchester to win the coveted honour.

The charity cook-off raised a substantial £24,595 for Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

The foundation provides grants to enhance mobility and improve quality of life for vulnerable groups and those living with disabilities.

The foundation helps connect vulnerable people and those living with a disability to community groups in their area by providing grants.

In 2023 alone, it distributed £225,000, helping 160 groups and charities, and 87 individuals.

In the cook-off, Ms Donaldson impressed by preparing a Chicken Roulade stuffed with pork and apple sausage in a mushroom, shallot and madeira sauce, followed by a Sticky Toffee Pudding with clotted cream and edible flowers.

The dishes were well received by the judging panel which consisted of members of Barchester’s Executive team.

The general manager of Crabwall Hall, Nicole Welch, expressed immense pride in Ms Donaldson's achievement.

She said: "We are all so proud of Alison, she really is amazing – is there nothing she can’t do!

"Her dishes looked absolutely fantastic and she raised so much for the Foundation, we think she is an absolute super star!"
