IF you have been driving in and around a Cheshire town centre, you may have noticed new cameras.
Motorists have been in touch with our sister title the Warrington Guardian after spotting the cameras while driving.
One said: “I notice that a lot of cameras have been placed around the town centre.
“Is this by any chance the start of paying to cross Warrington back on the cards now we have a Labour Government?”
Warrington Borough Council were approached for clarity and confirmation regarding the cameras.
In response, a spokesman said: “The cameras have been installed temporarily to conduct surveys counting the number of vehicles, pedestrians and cycle users at key points across the town.
“These surveys have been undertaken annually for the past few years to understand how people move in the town.
“The data will be used for ongoing monitoring of cycling and walking trends and to inform the development of policy and projects.”
