People have been evacuated from shops on a Chester suburb street following a fire in the roof space of a commercial building today (Thursday, July 18).
Two fire engines and the aerial platform from Chester Fire Station were deployed to the scene behind Western Avenue, Blacon, at 10.47am.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue said the cause of the fire is being investigated.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "A fire in the roof space of a commercial building was tackled by firefighters in breathing apparatus using two hose reel jets and a covering jet.
"A thermal imaging camera was used to ensure there were no further hotspots and a high pressure fan operated to clear smoke.
"People have been evacuated from adjoining premises while the fire and residual smoke is being dealt with."
