PLANS have been submitted to build new apartments in the site of a former legendary nightclub.
The proposals are for a scheme which will comprise eight one-bedroom apartments above what was previously home to the Carlton Club on Sankey Street, Warrington.
The club closed in the late 1990s but its reputation extended far and wide.
It played host to the likes of Wilson Picket, Edwin Starr, Eric Clapton and Three Degrees.
Back in 2002, hopes to resurrect the club arose. But these were soon dashed due to the landlord not wanting to let the premises, which would have been located above Topshop and Topman, for the use of a nightclub.
Now, plans have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council which seek permission to construct a two-storey extension to create eight apartments.
Documents state that there would be four on each floor, and that four of them will be single occupancy and four of them will be double rooms.
“This will provide some variety for those people looking for small scale, more affordable accommodation, as they will have a choice of a single or double room,” the proposals read.
They also seek permission to demolish a chimney stack and small brick structure on the roof.
The building currently covers three floors, with the ground floor used for commercial premises and the first and second floor comprising six apartments in total.
