CHESTER will soon have a new bakery from the team behind Sticky Walnut and The White Horse pub.

Those venues, part of the Elite Bistros group, will soon be joined by a new venture located on Lightfoot Street in Hoole, according to business owner and restauranteur Gary Usher.

Mr Usher has overseen the creation of several successful restaurants across the Northwest, as well as the group's first pub, The White Horse in Churton, which has proved popular since opening in March last year.

However, the new location within Deva House, Cestrian Court, will be dedicated to baked goods.

Updating his followers on X (formerly Twitter), he said: “Hi everyone in @ShitChester

“If we done a bakery on Lightfoot street in Hoole (we have done a bakery on Lightfoot street in Hoole ) & gave a load of bread away for the first few weeks would you pop down to see us ?”

The news follows a series of tweets teasing the idea of a bakery, which began on July 8, with Gary Usher explaining the personal significance of the new business.

He said: “My grandad opened a bakery about 50 years ago & my dad took it over when he got ill & opened two more. Bread has always been really important in my family so it’s only right our next venture should be a bakery in Chester. Sourdough, focaccia… & maybe a few custard tarts?”

Whilst there is no official opening date, Mr Usher has hinted at the goods that will be on offer with breads including brioche, sourdough, rye and focaccia which have featured across various Elite Bistros restaurants available to purchase, alongside other signature pies, pastries and desserts.
