A DRIVER has been charged after a fatal crash.
Joshua Eldred, of no fixed abode in Northwich, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and failing to provide a sample.
This follows a crash on the A533 Runcorn Road, between Barnton and the A49, on Thursday (July 18).
Cheshire Police were called to the scene at 9.16am amid reports of a crash between a blue Ford Focus and a white Suzuki Celerio.
A passenger in the Suzuki, a 48-year-old man from Runcorn, died at the scene while the driver, a 48-year-old woman from Runcorn, sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital where she is receiving treatment.
Eldred, who had been driving the Ford, was arrested at the scene.
The 31-year-old has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Chester Crown Court on Monday (August 19).
Following the crash, Cheshire Police launched an appeal for information and dashcam footage.
Inspector Steve Griffiths, of the Cheshire Police Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit said: “Enquires in relation to this collision are ongoing and we are committed to doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.
“As part of our investigation, we’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and believes they may have witnessed the incident.
“The same goes for anyone with any dashcam footage or CCTV footage which may aid the investigation.
“We are also looking to speak to anyone who resides on Runcorn Road, who may have captured CCTV or doorbell footage of the vehicles involved prior to the collision.”
