Passengers travelling to and from the Chester and Ellesmere Port areas faced disruption on Tuesday evening due to trespassers on the railway.
Merseyrail confirmed the reason for trains being cancelled or delayed on the Chester and Ellesmere Port lines was down to trespassers on the railway at Hooton. The incident was reported at about 7pm.
A rail replacement bus service was organised to run between Rock Ferry and Chester/Ellesmere Port while the incident was dealt with, while several Merseyrail trains had their routes curtailed.
The rail network returned to normal after the 9.15pm Liverpool-Chester service began at Birkenhead Central.
