TWO police officers are currently in hospital with serious injuries after a crash late last night, Tuesday.

The officers were in a Cheshire Police car pursuing another car on Delph Lane in Winwick when they crashed at around 11.40pm.

The vehicle they were pursuing failed to stop and made off towards Myddleton Lane.

Emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics, attended the scene, with the officers rushed to Aintree Hospital, where they remain, with serious injuries.

The road was closed for a number of hours overnight, reopening before 7am this morning, Wednesday.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing, and anyone with any information or footage urged to come forward.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At around 11.40pm on Tuesday, July 23, a police car crashed following a pursuit of a grey Seat Leon on Delph Lane, Warrington.

“Two police officers were taken to Aintree hospital for treatment, where they remain at this time.

 “Enquiries into the cause of the collision are ongoing.

 “Attempts to locate the driver of the Seat Leon, that failed to stop and made off in the direction of Myddleton Lane, Warrington, are currently underway.

 “Anyone with any information, CCTV or dashcam footage that may aid the investigation is asked to get in contact,”
