Residents from a care home in Chester have taken a trip on a narrowboat.
Staff and residents from Barchester's Crabwall Hall embarked on a four-hour round trip on The Shropshire Union Canal with 'Community Narrowboating in Wirral, Cheshire and Beyond,' enjoying a scenic afternoon filled with wildlife sightings and other passing barges.
A picnic, prepared by their resident chef, accompanied by a hearty helping of wine, provided a wonderful lunchtime treat.
General manager, Nicole Welch said: "We absolutely love being able to take our residents out and about, one of the residents who attended the trip even expressed how this was one of his wishes and to be able to make it a reality was just really special.
"It was a fantastic day and all who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves."
Resident Alan Davis said: "We had a lovely time, it was a really enjoyable day and it was a blast from the past for me as I used to volunteer as a skipper myself on narrowboats, but it was nice to not be working this time."
Another resident, Anne Lodge, said: "The trip was most enjoyable and I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
"The volunteers were ever so helpful and we just want to say a great big thank you to everyone involved."
This initiative forms part of a varied life enrichment programme at Crabwall Hall, aimed at keeping residents active and engaged.
Barchester Healthcare, the UK's one of the largest care providers, runs the facility, committed to delivering high-quality care across its care homes and hospitals.
