VISITORS to Wirral's beaches are being warned of the dangers of getting stuck in the mud after a person was rescued in Leasowe Bay.

On Sunday afternoon (July 29), Wirral Coastguard Team was alerted to a report of a person stuck in the mud.

Whilst on route it was confirmed RNLI Wirral Lifeguards had recovered the person to safety, but rescue team was still needed to transport the casualty to awaiting ambulance for assessment.

Wirral and Flint Coastguard Rescue Team used a basket stretcher to carry the person off the beach to the waiting ambulance.

RNLI Hoylake Lifeboat Station hovercraft was initially called, but stood down.

A warning message on Wirral Coastguard Team's Facebook page read: "Please be aware there are patches of mud surrounding the rocks on the beach behind Leasowe Golf Club / Leasowe Castle Hotel.

"If you do get stuck: Stay calm, avoid moving too much, spread your weight by sitting down, this will stop you from sinking further and discourage people from trying to rescue you as they may also get stuck.

"Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. If you know anyone that walks in this area, please tag or share this post to make people aware of the mud patches."
