A POPULAR cinema based in Flintshire looks set to avoid the cut, despite the firm's decision to axe several sites across the UK.

Cineworld has confirmed that it will close six venues across Britain as part of a plan to cut costs.

It was reported this month that the chain was considering closing 25 of its 100 cinemas as a result of its struggles with debt and the lasting impact of the Covid pandemic.

And fears had previously been raised over their two sites in North Wales - at Llandudno Junction and Broughton Shopping Park.

But, Cineworld has now confirmed that no sites had been identified for closure other than the six it announced this week.

The affected sites will be the ones at; Glasgow Parkhead, Bedford, Hinckley, Loughborough, Yate and Swindon – Regent Circus.

A statement from Cineworld read: "Against a background of increasingly high and unsustainable operating costs, the business is set to implement a restructuring plan that will enable it to address its lease portfolio and rental terms with landlords in the UK."

Founded in 1995, Cineworld operates more than 100 cinemas in the UK and Ireland and employs thousands of people.

In 2023, it tried to sell its businesses in the US, UK, and Ireland, but did not receive any acceptable offers.

Later the same year, it entered administration, but continued to operate its cinemas.
