THE POST Office has confirmed it is reviewing services in Ellesmere Port following the closure of a branch in the town.

The Post Office counter, which was located within Little Sutton Convenience Store on Chester Road, closed following the resignation of the postmaster last week.

A message posted by the store on social media on Wednesday (July 31), said: “It is with great sadness, thought and some tears that as of today I have handed my resignation with immediate effect to the Post Office meaning we will no longer be providing the service.

“It has been a pleasure providing the service the last 9 years and have met some truly wonderful people! I would like to thank all the loyal customers that have supported the Post Office over the years, and I look forward to continuing to serve and chat with you via the shop for many more years!”

The Post Office have today (Monday, August 5) confirmed that a review is underway to assess the need for additional services.

In a statement, a Post Office spokesperson said: “Little Sutton Post Office has closed with immediate effect with the resignation of the postmaster. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the unplanned closure of the branch.

“Alternative branches in the area include Overpool, which is just over a mile away, and at Hope Farm Road. We are now undertaking a review of post office services in the local area to determine next steps and what services might be needed.”

Cllrs Christine Warner and Peter Wheeler posted from their joint Ledsham and Manor Ward Labour page: “SAD NEWS for Little Sutton.

“After nine years Craig at the Little Sutton convenience shop is having to give up the Post Office side of the business.

“It will be a loss to the local community, with the nearest Post Offices being in Overpool and Hope Farm.

“We will try to encourage other local businesses to take on a Post Office and we know Justin Madders is in touch with the Post Office nationally.

“Meanwhile, we would like to say thanks to Craig for his past efforts and hope everyone will continue to support the shop in the future.”

It is understood that the Post Office will look to replace the branch.
