Chester's Grosvenor Museum has been named one of the North West's most visited attractions.
The museum was named in the top 20 of the most visited free attractions in the North West by a major survey carried out by Visit England.
The survey, which included responses from more than 100 attractions, used data from visits to free and paid attractions between the years 2022 and 2023.
The Grosvenor Museum had 62,009 visitors in 2023, an increase from 58,934 in 2022.
A significant number of these were school children, indicating that the Grosvenor is one of the most popular museums for school visits in Cheshire.
Cheshire West and Chester Council's cabinet member for a fairer future, councillor Lisa Denson, welcomed the museum's inclusion in the list of the most visited free attractions: "I am delighted that the Grosvenor Museum is on the list of the most visited attractions in the North West.
"The museum programmes a wide range of exhibitions and activities for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
"Our popular schools programme provides a fantastic introduction to Chester’s exciting and vibrant heritage.
"A visit to the Grosvenor Museum is a must for anyone visiting Cheshire West and Chester."
The survey showed an overall increase of 20 per cent in visitor numbers for museums in England, although this is still down on pre-Covid figures.
