A WIRRAL pizza restaurant has shared its “disappointment” after being told to remove its outdoor lighting.
Three Dollar Bill based on Market Street in Hoylake said it installed lights outside of the restaurant around five months ago to help light up the venue to potential customers.
However, now the business is being told to take down the lights by Wirral Council after National Highways received a “complaint”.
Posting on a community group, owner Amy Small said: “Hoylake looks so lovely all lit up, driving up and down it’s so nice to see all the lights outside all the restaurants and then all the trees lit up.
“It’s such a shame though, that our restaurant is in an area that isn’t so busy and lit up at night, so we added some lovely lights outside (five months ago) and someone has complained to the council about them and now we have to take them down.
“Our lights go off at 9.30pm each night, aren’t very bright, but they really helped to get us noticed when people were driving past.
“If that person who contacted the highways department is on here we would love to know why? What harm were the lights doing? Small independent businesses need to do everything they can to survive and local support is imperative.
“One phone call to the council may mean nothing to you, but to us it’s a huge disappointment.”
A Wirral Council spokesperson said: “The issue was primarily to do with the lights and cables hanging across the pavement and being wrapped around a roadside sign.
“This was not allowed under the conditions of their Pavement Licence - it would require permission from highways due to public safety.
“The restaurant has not been told to remove the lighting altogether, just from the public highway and from the road sign.
“We’d be happy to work with the owners of the restaurant to come up with a lighting solution for their outside tables that would meet safety requirements and gain approval.”
