MOTORISTS are being warned of delays this morning on the M56 as repair work is carried out.

National Highways is advising of potential delays on the M56 eastbound near Runcorn this morning (Sunday) as repairs take place around a broken metal grid.

National Highways was alerted to the defect between junctions 14 (Hapsford) and 12 (Rocksavage) at 5.25pm yesterday.

For the safety of motorists and the workforce, lanes 1 and 2 remain closed in this area.

Repairs have taken place during the night, with further repairs currently expected to continue into the afternoon.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "Anyone planning to travel in this area is strongly advised to plan ahead, allow more time to reach their destination or find alternative routes if at all possible.

"Further updates will be shared as soon as they’re available."
