CHESTER and surrounding areas are set to be buffeted by strong winds tomorrow (Friday, August 23) as Storm Lilian approaches.
A Met Office weather warning has been issued, coming into effect from 5am on Friday, with gusts of up to 50mph making disruption to travel and infrastructure a possibility.
The Yellow warning extends across much of the North of England and the northern coast of Wales.
Strong winds are expected to subside by around midday.
In full, a Yellow warning for wind could see:
- Injuries and danger to life from flying debris
- Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
- Road, rail, air and ferry services affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
- Some roads and bridges closed
- Power cuts, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
- Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach materials being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties
