PROPOSALS to build a 95-home housing estate in Middlewich are set to be discussed by council planning chiefs.

An outline application has been submitted by Blok UK Ltd to turn the land off Centurion Way, between Byley Lane and Holmes Chapel Road, into a residential development.

The plans have been sent to both Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester councils as the land straddles the boroughs' boundary.

Of the proposed properties, 75 lie within Cheshire East and 20 within Cheshire West.

Cheshire East's southern planning committee is now set to discuss the proposal, which is recommended for approval, at a meeting on Wednesday, September 11.

But even if the council grants permission to the application, it will still require approval from Cheshire West and Chester Council before it can be implemented.

In a report recommending the committee approve the plans, it states: "The benefits of the proposal would be the provision of open market and affordable housing and the limited economic benefits during construction.

"The proposal, subject to minerals assessment and public open spaces, complies with the development plan as a whole and is recommended for approval."

More than 100 letters of objection, including from Middlewich Town Council, have been sent to the councils in respect to the initial and revised schemes.

Concerns raised include highway safety, loss of green spaces, harm to wildlife sites, and the impact on local GP surgeries and schools.
