TWO men from Cheshire West completed a gruelling 110km run at the weekend from Frodsham to Whitchurch and back in aid of Parkinson’s UK.

George Rose and Elias Rugen ran the length of the Sandstone Trail and back, beginning their journey on Saturday (September 7) at 5.30am and returning at around midnight.

The challenging route covered just over 63 miles, with an overall elevation of 2000m.

The two men had been planning a charity run for some time, with George’s dad having suffered with Parkinson’s for more than 10 years. It is hoped that the money raised will help fund research into a possible cure for the disease.

George said via Just Giving: “Since my dad’s diagnosis, I have witnessed the continual improvement of medicines and treatments for the condition and think it would be amazing to raise some money for Parkinson’s UK to help with their ongoing mission of finding an eventual cure for the disease.

“This is a cause close to my heart and I hope that our run can help raise awareness of Parkinson’s and how it impacts the lives of over 150,000 people in the UK.”

George and Elias were well supported by friends and family, including Josh, Archie, Joe and Hugo who ran significant chunks of the trail alongside them and Pete and Cath who followed along with a van providing snacks, hydration and blister plasters.

The pair have already more than doubled their original target of £2000, with £4078 having been raised so far.
