FINAL preparations are underway for a popular Chester busker to fulfil a long-held dream of leading his own orchestra, with two special concerts set to take place in the city centre.

Usually found performing in the shadow of Chester's iconic Eastgate Clock, classically trained violinist Philip Chidell is preparing to take to the stage at Chester Town Hall for the concerts which will take place on Saturday, September 14 and Friday, September 27 at 7.30pm.

The concerts are a dream come true for Philip who will be joined on stage by his own 'mini orchestra', a hand-picked ensemble of 10 professional musicians.

The two special performances will showcase popular classical music including pieces by Elgar, Mozart and Strauss as well as hits from the movies and the best of the West End and Broadway, providing a magical evening of live music with something for everyone.

Picking up the violin at the age of six, Philip was offered a place at the prestigious Chetham's School of Music in Manchester, becoming their youngest student at the time. Philip was soon performing around the UK, and at 13 played for the first time as a soloist with an orchestra. He has performed as a member of several ensembles and orchestras, in venues including the Bridgewater Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, Manchester Cathedral, Chester Cathedral and St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Philip has since gone on to become one of the most recognisable and popular buskers in Chester city centre where he performs regularly during the summer months.

Speaking ahead of the two Chester Town Hall dates, Philip said: “Ever since I was a young music student in Manchester, I’ve dreamed of one day launching an orchestra. Finally, that dream is coming true, and I’m delighted that the first concerts will be taking place in my hometown of Chester.

“I’ve found 10 incredibly talented young musicians, all based in the Northwest, and we’re so looking forward to presenting these two special concerts at Chester’s magnificent town hall. I’m hoping they will be a magical evening for the audience – perhaps the first of many!”
