Plans for 49 new apartments to be built less than 100 metres from Chester Railway Station have been lodged with the council.

A new block of apartments and commercial units is proposed for Station Road, next to The Live Rooms. It would see the current Anfield building being demolished and replaced with a new build which would include a roof garden on the third floor. the existing car park would also be removed and replaced.

A design and access statement submitted by planning consultants Hodder + partners says the development would be within the Chester Northern Gateway Regeneration area, which endorses high quality development.

It adds the scheme would "provide a high-quality mixed-use scheme that is consistent" with that policy, and "improve the appearance of the application site and setting of neighbouring listed buildings".

The site layout would consist of 395 square metres for commercial unit use, facing Station Road on the ground floor. A private car park with 13 spaces would be at the rear of the development.

The first and second floors would each feature 13 apartments – eight with one bedroom, five with two bedrooms. The third and fourth floors would each feature nine apartments – four with one bedroom, five with two bedrooms. The fifth floor would have five apartments – two with one bedroom, three with two bedrooms.

Planners added: "The development proposes to provide scale, identity and a piece of living city, which connects the new scheme in an area with historic character in Chester."

Also featured on the plans are areas for commercial and residential waste storage, as well as 50 cycle spaces.

The plans can be viewed on the council's planning portal.
