A POPULAR Chester pub will host a special charity event this weekend as it marks World Alzheimer's Day.

The Piper, Hoole, will have a range of fun activities and entertainment on Saturday, September 21, as the team look to raise as much money as possible for Alzheimer's Society.

The event will feature:

  • 11am – 1pm – Visitors can have their nails painted for a donation at the nail parlour, supported by volunteer customers.
  • 11am – 4pm – Coffee and cake will be available to purchase for a donation.
  • 2pm – 4pm – Singer Hannah Baird will bring the classic sounds of Motown, 60s, 70s and soul.
  • 9pm onwards – Charity bingo is available for £2 per sheet with plenty of prizes up for grabs as well as a music quiz and higher or lower. All money raised will go to charity.

Raffle tickets will be available to purchase over the weekend, with the draw on Sunday evening (September 22). Prize donors include Chester’s Doll Beauty and Picturehouse.

Managing Partner Emma North said: “This is a charity very close to our hearts. My husband’s mum, Pat was diagnosed with early onset dementia 3 years ago which has changed her and our lives drastically. We now care for Pat full time and most of our customers know her from helping around in the pub.

“We understand the effects that this cruel illness has on carers, family and friends. We are wanting to create a space on Saturday where everyone is welcome. If you have a friend or family member who is affected by Alzheimer's and dementia then bring them along, let them have their nails painted, have a sing along and maybe a little dance.”
