A CRICKET club in Chester is celebrating a major milestone this year.
Westminster Park Cricket Club (WPCC) has successfully completed 15 years in the Cheshire Cricket League.
The club, which was founded by Tirumal Dayama and has been strongly supported by Secretary Praveen Govind and current first-team captain Vyshak Kuppalli, has grown steadily over the years and now boasts more than 50 junior players.
This year’s achievements have made the anniversary even more special, with multiple teams securing league titles and individual players shining across the board.
First Team Wins Cheshire Cricket League Division 2
In a dominant display throughout the season, the WPCC first team, led by Vyshak Kuppalli, claimed the Cheshire Cricket League Division 2 championship.
The team played 21 matches, winning 15, tying 2, and losing only 4, finishing with a total of 303 points, a 30 points ahead of second place.
Key to the first team’s success was the superb form of Mandeep Nain, who finished as the highest wicket taker in the league, claiming 60 wickets.
On the batting side, Jayraj Chudasama led the way, finishing as the top scorer with 474 runs.
Second Team Reigns in Division C
Not to be outdone, WPCC's second team, captained by Tirumala Dayama, also enjoyed an exceptional season, winning the Division C championship.
The team was consistently strong throughout the season, winning 18 of their 21 matches, with only 3 losses.
Raf Afridi emerged as the highest run-scorer in Division C with 487 runs, while Shree Dayama, at just 13 years old, delivered an outstanding bowling performance, with the best figures of the season for the second team, taking 5 wickets for just 15 runs.
Midweek Team Success in Division 4
Adding to their remarkable year, WPCC’s Chester Midweek League team, led by Rohit Rana, secured the Division 4 title.
Cheshire Plate Cup Victory
In addition to their league success, Westminster Park also celebrated a Cheshire Plate Cup victory after defeating Trafford Metrovics.
A spokesperson for the club said: "This season's success across all teams, from the first and second XI to the midweek squad, demonstrates the club's strength and unity.
"With exceptional players, dedicated leadership, and a growing base of junior cricketers, Westminster Park Cricket Club continues to build on its rich history, with many more triumphs expected in the years to come."
