SHOPPERS at a retail park in a Cheshire town have been left furious after receiving ‘ridiculously harsh’ parking fines.
Over the past few weeks, a number of people have received penalty notices after visiting Riverside Retail Park in the centre of Warrington.
This is due to them parking ‘slightly’ outside of the lines in the bays and it appears these regulations have only recently been introduced.
Letters from UK Parking Control, who are responsible for the car park, state that there is a £100 penalty for the offence, but it is £60 if paid in 14 days.
One shopper told the Warrington Guardian: “You might argue it’s my own fault for not parking more carefully within the parking bay markings, but a £100 penalty (£60 if paid in 14 days) seems a ridiculously harsh charge for such action, especially in what was at best a half-full car park.”
They went on to say how the issuing of these kind of notices will cause a loss of customer traffic to the retail park.
“But more importantly, these car parking companies are exploiting and intimidating people on a vast scale,” they continued.
“It is time for collective action to put a stop to this car park robbery.”
A number of other residents have been in touch to report that they have received the same penalty.
The Warrington Guardian, a sister title of the Chester Standard, contacted UKPC about the matter but has received no response.
