A man seen driving erratically on the M53 motorway near Chester was over the drink-drive limit.
Chester Magistrates Court heard on Friday, September 27 that Giang Nguyen was travelling on the southbound carriageway towards the A55 and initially did not follow police instructions for him to move over and stop.
The 51-year-old, of Wynn Avenue, Wrexham, told magistrates he was unaware police were following him, and when he stopped, he was arrested.
Nguyen pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to drink-driving.
Prosecuting, Chris Howard said it was at 2.20am on August 31 when police saw Nguyen driving erratically in a Toyota vehicle. He was stopped at Junction 39 of the A55.
After being arrested, Nguyen was taken to custody, where he blew a reading of 42 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, compared to the legal limit of 35.
Representing himself, Nguyen said he was tired and on his way home, and felt "very bad" for what he had done.
He asked if he could be spared a driving ban, but was told by the court that was not possible as disqualifications were mandatory for drink-driving offences.
Magistrates handed Nguyen a 12-month driving ban, which would be reduced by a quarter upon successful completion of a drink-driver awareness course.
He was also fined £288 and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
