Members of the Chester Christian Aid Group are raising their voices for communities in war zones worldwide.

The group is set to hold their annual Singing for Justice service, at 4pm on October 6, at St Mary’s Without the Walls in Handbridge.

Open to all, the event will focus on peace, with a collection for Christian Aid, an international development agency.

Christian Aid partners with organisations in vulnerable communities, providing aid in conflict areas, including food, shelter, and medical supplies, as well as long-term support to help people rebuild their lives.

The chairperson of the Chester Christian Aid Group, Trevor Dennis, said the service would feature a talk from Rev Christel Langdon-Griffiths, one of the charity’s church engagement and fundraising officers.

Rev Langdon-Griffiths said: "I’m looking forward to the service and talking to everyone about Christian Aid.

"Peacebuilding is a crucial part of the organisation’s work.

"Statistics show, if current trends persist, by 2030 more than half of the world’s most vulnerable communities will be living in countries affected by high levels of violence.

"This is why we’re calling on churches to pray and work for peace."

Mr Dennis added: "Every year, the lively Chester Christian Aid Group organises an ecumenical service in one of the city’s churches to sing for justice and peace.

"This year, with the horrors of war continuing in Ukraine, Sudan, Gaza, and the West Bank, and elsewhere, and with summer riots having brought violence onto the streets of our own country, we decided we would simply invite everyone to come together to pray for peace, and to sing for it, too."

All are welcome to join the service at St Mary’s Church, with no need to book.

Parking is available behind the church, and teas and coffees will be served in the church centre afterwards.
