TWO Pints of Lager stars have paid homage to their Runcorn roots as a first look of their new series is revealed.
Will Mellor and Ralf Little were spotted back in May when pictures of them paying a visit to Space Runcorn, a bakery on Regent Street, circulated on social media.
The actors stared in the Runcorn-based hit TV show, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, between 2001 and 2011.
Will and Ralf were also spotted filming at Pit Stop Café in Penketh, Warrington, near the Fiddlers Ferry Power Station in May.
While they were in Runcorn, they paid a visit to the site of the former pub, now Buddhist temple, that was used as The Archer in the iconic BBC programme.
While it was initially hoped that the filming was for a reunion, in August it was announced that a new TV show starring the duo would be making its way to screens soon.
Will and Ralf Should Know Better is a four-part series follows the actors embark on challenges that test their attitudes to aging, spirituality and even living off the grid.
“The show is about reflecting what we are like 20 years later, and what the world is like 20 years later,” said Ralf.
The first episode sees the pair visit the former pub, now called Wat Phra Singh UK, which has been transformed and includes a six-metre-tall Chedi statue and a new peace garden funded by Reconnecting Runcorn.
“It seems like a nice correlation, that 20 years ago this was a pub that we have lots of memories in, hazy memories,” said Ralf.
“Now we are a little bit older, and trying to be a little bit wiser now, it is a much calmer place.
“Coming back here, to their building, this temple, there’s a lot about our history. One of the places we are associated with but what it has transformed into is what we are trying to reflect on and emulate in our own way.”
This isn’t the first time they have returned to Runcorn, as they toured the town in 2022 for their podcast Two Pints with Will and Ralf, and it seems the town and the memories they made here will always hold a special place in their hearts.
“It all started because of a show set in Runcorn, because of a local writer, Susan Nickson, so it will always be a part of my and Ralf’s history, and our friendship,” said Will.
“The best years of my life are because of the show that was set in Runcorn.
“Runcorn is and always will be a massive part of our history. Great times, great memories and good people, it’s always great to come back.”
Will and Ralf Should Know Better will air on U and Dave at 10pm on October 7, and all episodes can be streamed for free on U.
