A YOUTH centre in Ellesmere Port is set to be demolished as the Council makes room for new homes.
The Oasis Centre, or ‘The Boyzee’ as it is also known, has stood on Coronation Road since November 1965 but will soon be flattened as part of a £13m regeneration project.
The project, which also includes updates to the town centre and market hall, has earmarked Coronation Road and Civic Offices as sites on which low carbon, first-time buyer or family homes will be built.
On the Prior Approval for Demolition application, it states: “Therefore, this application seeks permission to demolish the current building and remediate the site to a standard that is suitable for redevelopment and to undertake any earth-working exercise (as necessary) as part of that remediation.
“Such works will result in a levelled site ready to receive redevelopment in the future. All materials removed from the site will be disposed of at an appropriately licensed facility.”
Other buildings on Coronation Road, such as the former RPV Trading warehouse and Crazy Town children’s play area will also be demolished to make way for the new properties.
The Oasis Centre provided junior and senior youth clubs for children from eight years old up to 19, and up to 25 for those with special educational needs and disabilities. These included weekly activities such as sports, dance, arts and crafts, cooking classes and other recreational activities.
Following the demolition, the site will cleared and fenced off as the Council works with developers to create the new estate.
The document adds: “The site presents an opportunity for new investment in the area and forms part of the Levelling Up Fund project for Ellesmere Port Town Centre.”
Work is expected to begin on November 1 and be completed by the end of the year.
