THE COUNCIL is to install new heritage streetlights in Little Sutton Village, Ellesmere Port, after they were identified as a top priority by a residents’ group.

The project will be funded by developer Redrow as part of their commitment to their Ledsham housing development.

Chairman of the Little Sutton Village Regeneration Advisory Group, Steve Hewitt, said:

“Replacing the street lighting columns was necessary if we were to achieve the long-held aim of getting Christmas lights up in Little Sutton.

“We’ve considered many styles of lighting but decided on a heritage style, to fit in with the style of the other street furniture we'd already bought for the village, like the planters and notice board.”

The installation will be funded as a result of contributions or ‘S106’ money from Redrow.

Installation will start next week and is expected to be completed by the end of the month. The columns will be installed along the high street A41, from Jessop Court to Station Road. No road closures are expected for the works.

The S106 funds are also being used for Christmas lights for the village, the switch on date for these will be November 29.

Councillor Paul Donovan, Cabinet Member for Democracy, Workforce and Communities said:

“S106 agreements, also referred to as 'developer contributions', are funds to be spent in the area that construction work has taken place that will be of direct benefit to residents.

“Thanks to the Little Sutton Village Regeneration Advisory Group the new Heritage lighting and Christmas lights were chosen for spending some of this funding.”
