HEAVY rain continues to fall across the North West today (Wednesday, October 16) with a yellow weather warning remaining in place.

The Met Office issued the initial warning yesterday, with the wet weather predicted to subside by midday today, however this has since been updated.

The new alert now extends into this evening, covering a wider area. Rain is forecast to continue until at least 9pm.

The warning is adjudged to have a ‘very low likelihood and a medium impact’ on the Met Office’s impact matrix.

Many areas, including Cheshire West, are expected to see around 10-20mm of rainfall. Those in southwest England and south Wales could see considerably more.

A few places may see 50-80 mm of rain fall in six hours. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible in the south of the warning area, with lightning an additional hazard.

The Met Office is advising that there is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.

Some communities could become temporarily cut off by flooded roads.

There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

The weather could also see a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
