RURAL homes near Chester have been evacuated this afternoon (Wednesday, October 16) as a result of flooding.
Emergency services are at the scene in Lower Kinnerton and motorists have been warned to avoid Main Road.
The news comes after a yellow weather warning was issued for much of the North West, with the Met Office forecasting heavy rain throughout this evening.
Chester Rural South Police said via social media: “Main Road in Lower Kinnerton is currently closed in both directions due to flooding.
“Police and fire are in attendance at the scene and a small number of homes have been evacuated.
“Residents are advised to avoid the area at this time.”
A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said that officers were supporting residents to safely leave their homes due to flooding of some streets.
Two swift water technicians are in the area helping anyone in need of assistance.
Under the yellow warning, there is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.
Some communities could become temporarily cut off by flooded roads.
There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.
The weather could also see a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.
Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and come road closures.
