Heavy rain has caused traffic chaos on the roads and rail in the Chester area this morning.

Previously we reported that residents had to be evacuated from their homes in Lower Kinnerton on Wednesday afternoon, while fire crews had to rescue two people trapped from a car in Farndon, and there was significant disruption on the rail network.

Fire crews have been present since the early hours on Parkgate Road in Chester this morning, as the road has flooded.

A flood warning remains in place for the areas near the Finchetts Gutter, with low lying land and roads expected to be most affected, particularly around Parkgate Road including Abbotsmeads and Abbots Terrace. While the road is not technically closed, conditions are understood to be treacherous and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.

A flood warning is also in place at Mill Brook at Tattenhall. Areas most at risk include Old Mill Place, Cookes Court, High Street and Breen Close.

A flood alert is also in place in the River Dee catchment area between Whitchurch and Chester.

Traffic is very busy on the A483 Wrexham Road heading in and out of Chester, exacerbated by the ongoing road closure on Lower Bridge Street which is due to end this weekend. Road conditions were poor on Lache Lane on Wednesday evening due to floodwater, but were passable.

Travel on the railway continues to be difficult, with disruption to many services.

Flooding between Crewe and Chester/Runcorn has caused disruption, and is expected to continue until the end of the day.

For Merseyrail passengers, trains are running from Rock Ferry, with a rail replacement bus service taking passengers between there and Chester and Ellesmere Port.

Fortunately, no further rain is expected in the Chester area on Thursday, with temperatures also due to rise to 17C.
